The Cape Institute for Architecture took the initiative in August to celebrate Woman's month with a full schedule of events celebrating the achievements of women in architecture. The CBA was proud to be the main sponsor for this month-long series of Woman in Architecture (WIA) events, that will built and strengthened our relationship with the institute and local architects .
"Thank you for your most generous support of this event, responded CIfA President Nicola Irving. "It feels most appropriate that clay - one of the first materials from which we created vessels to contain ourselves - giving shelter, warmth and security, and a very feminine narrative, was the sponsor for this event."
There were 3 components to WIA month: (Opening 1st of August on First Thursday)
- A curated “exhibition” at The Architect Gallery spearheaded by 20 female architects.
- A series of CPD accredited talks throughout the month, drawing on women in practice, academia and public service.
- An interactive timeline to gather and engage with as many women architects/specifiers as possible.
The exhibition and talks were extremely well attended with around 80 people, as was "First Thursday".
Sponsoring the WIA campaign not only shows the the CBA is driving and supporting change in the industry but acknowledges the outstanding contribution female architects make to the wider profession. CBA representatives were given an opportunity to connect and network with architects and other bulding design professionals, build and strengthen communication among all members of the industry and help your business grow.
There are more than 900 CIfA member architects in the Western Cape and 2300 SAIA members nationwide including design professionals, students and allied industry professionals. As the largest and oldest Institute in South Africa, CIfA is an important partner for the CBA in the western Cape.
